There were quite a few upsets over the weekend with the biggest being the Patriots falling to the Cardinals at home.  A lot of people tabbed to Ravens to crush the Eagles after both teams week 1 performances, but the Eagles managed to win another ugly game.  The 49ers and Texans impressed once again and the Chargers and Cardinals are off to surprising 2-0 starts.

Also, my weekly Power Rankings will be reflected in my updated 2013 NFL Mock Draft.  Check that out as well.

Hello everyone,

This is my open letter to my loyal friends and followers of my blog!  I will making some changes to the site over the next week so that I can give you all a better experience.  I’m not exactly sure how things will be looking nor how long it’ll take for the “finished product,” but I hope to have everything up and running the entire time.  So please bear with me while I am “Under Construction!”

Thank you for your continued support,

Daniel Trawick

For those who missed the fight between two great champions Sergio Martinez and Julio Cesar Chavez, Jr., missed one of the best fights I’ve seen in my lifetime.  Prior to the fight, my mind was still fixated on Martinez’s devastating knockout over Paul Williams in their second fight.  That thought lingered in my mind as he came into this fight against the undefeated Chavez, Jr.

Here’s the Tale of the Tape between Martinez and Chavez, Jr.:

Fighter Martinez Chavez, Jr.
Age 37 26
Height 5’10” 6’1”
Reach 75 inches 73 inches

Chavez, Jr. and Williams are similar in stature and before the fight I figured Chavez, Jr. would have trouble with Martinez’s speed and craftiness in the ring.  That proved to be the case even though Chavez, Jr. had an 11 year age difference and 3 inches in height working in his favor.  The reach is probably what separated the two throughout the fight in the end.

Martinez came out from the beginning and basically had his way.  With his hands down around his waist, running circles around Chavez, Jr. hitting him with jabs, hooks, upper cuts and straight lefts anytime he wanted.  It was a dominant performance, but I was trying to figure out why Chavez, Jr. wasn’t throwing many punches.  He seemed afraid of Martinez or just couldn’t manage to figure out where he would be, especially knowing he is a great counter puncher.

The fight was through 11 rounds of a one-sided affair with Martinez dominating from start to finish.  Chavez, Jr. caught him with a couple solid shots, but he never looked to capitalize on them.  Everyone in the arena knew it was a loss unless Chavez, Jr. managed to knock Martinez out.

This video shows the epic final round and decision subsequently afterwards:

This fight will go down as one of the best of the year and you kinda wished they had brawled it out the entire fight.  I was just worried after the fight to see if the judges pulled a Pacquiao vs Bradley decision.  These judges actually watched this fight and it was well worth it.  Sorry if you missed this one, because the fight we all want to see (Pacquiao vs Mayweather) will probably never happen.

A rematch of Martinez vs Chavez, Jr. is the best we’ll have to look to forward to.
